Accessibility statement

This site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA, the standard adopted by the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites 3.0.

Accessibility features

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A skip link at the top of each page jumps to the main content, and the element with keyboard focus is always visibly outlined.
  • Text size can be increased or decreased using the controls at the top of every page. The site also respects your browser's own zoom and text-size settings.
  • Text and background colours meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1; controls and their borders meet 3:1.
  • Every image has a text alternative. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Pages use headings, landmarks, lists and tables so that screen readers can navigate them.
  • Nothing on the site moves, flashes or plays automatically. The site respects your operating system's reduced-motion setting.
  • Every interactive control is at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • The site works on screens from 320 pixels wide upwards without horizontal scrolling.

Known limitations

  • Publications are provided as PDF files produced over many years; some older PDFs may not be tagged for screen readers. The institute will provide an accessible version of any publication on request.
  • The embedded map is provided by Google and may not be fully accessible; the address is given in text on the contact page.
  • Photographs in the gallery have descriptive alternatives but no extended descriptions.
